President Donald Trump has declared a “Complete and Total CEASEFIRE” between Israel and Iran, just hours after Iran launched a missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar.

The surprising announcement was made on Truth Social, where Trump stated that both Israel and Iran have agreed to a 12-hour ceasefire set to begin approximately six hours from the time of posting. He framed this truce as the official end of what he called the “12-Day War.”

A Ceasefire With Global Implications

Trump’s post reads:

“It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!

Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World... God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!”

No Official Confirmation Yet

As of now, neither the Israeli government nor Iranian authorities have issued formal confirmation of the agreement. There are no signed diplomatic documents or multilateral announcements backing the president’s claims.

Nevertheless, early reports suggest that third-party mediators—possibly from Oman or Switzerland—have been involved in backchannel discussions to de-escalate tensions following Iran’s missile strike on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

The “12-Day War”: A Recap

The recent wave of conflict between Israel and Iran began 12 days ago when a drone strike hit central Tel Aviv, an attack Israel attributed to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. In retaliation, Israeli forces launched a series of airstrikes on Iranian positions in Syria and Iraq, prompting Iran to escalate further with direct missile attacks.

The situation intensified dramatically when Iranian missiles struck a U.S. installation in Qatar, injuring several American personnel and threatening to pull the U.S. further into the conflict.

Strategic Timing for Trump

This dramatic announcement comes amid President Trump’s reelection campaign, where foreign policy remains a focal point. A successful ceasefire between two historic enemies would bolster his credentials as a dealmaker and global peacemaker.

Still, analysts are urging caution. “A tweet is not a treaty,” one former diplomat warned. “We need verifiable facts, not declarations.”

Global Response Pending

The international community is waiting for clarity. The United Nations and European Union have both welcomed any effort toward de-escalation but have requested official verification from both governments. Russia and China, though silent publicly, are believed to have been consulted through diplomatic channels.

In Israel, political leaders have so far withheld comment. In Iran, state media have not reported the ceasefire, a sign that the deal may still be in early, informal stages.

If the ceasefire holds, it could represent a turning point in a region fraught with decades of hostility. But until there is confirmation from all sides involved, the world will continue to watch with cautious optimism.
