R&B icon Chris Brown was taken into police custody just hours after landing in the United Kingdom, raising serious questions about the future of his highly anticipated Breezy Bowl XX Tour. The 36-year-old American artist was arrested at the five-star Lowry Hotel in Manchester during the early hours of Thursday morning, following his arrival on a private jet from the United States.
According to a statement released by the Metropolitan Police, Brown was detained shortly after 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, in connection with an alleged grievous bodily harm (GBH) incident. The incident reportedly occurred in Hanover Square, Central London, on February 19, 2023, and involved a violent altercation with music producer Abe Diaw at the exclusive Tape nightclub in Mayfair.
“A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody where he remains,” the Met Police confirmed.
Timeline of the Arrest
Brown reportedly landed in Manchester on Wednesday afternoon aboard a private jet. Hours later, Metropolitan Police detectives traveled north to apprehend him at The Lowry Hotel. The luxurious venue, popular among celebrities and footballers, became the center of the unfolding legal drama.
Tour Plans in Question
The arrest comes just weeks before Brown is set to begin the UK leg of his global tour. The Breezy Bowl XX Tour is scheduled to kick off on June 8 in Amsterdam, followed by ten performances in cities across the UK including Manchester, Cardiff, London, Birmingham, Glasgow, and Dublin.
The singer, who recently celebrated his 20-year milestone in the industry, had expressed excitement about reconnecting with fans through the tour. In a March Instagram post, Brown wrote:
“Celebrating 20 years of CB. So excited to be able to share this moment with the world and my amazing fans. I can’t wait to see all y’all’s beautiful faces... Ima take y’all through these eras but most importantly give y’all my heart and soul.”
Brown was expected to be joined by Summer Walker in the U.S. and Bryson Tiller in Europe and the UK.
Ongoing Legal Challenges
Brown's arrest adds to his history of legal troubles that have frequently interrupted his career. From his 2009 conviction for assaulting singer Rihanna to more recent lawsuits and accusations, the artist remains one of the most controversial figures in modern R&B.
With his legal status now uncertain, questions are mounting about whether he will be permitted to continue his tour across the UK and Europe. His team has yet to issue a formal response or provide clarity on upcoming dates.
As of now, Chris Brown remains in police custody. This arrest could potentially derail his entire UK schedule, disappointing thousands of fans and creating a logistical nightmare for organizers.
