In a surprising twist, FIFA has officially ruled that Club León will not participate in the 2025 Club World Cup due to multi-club ownership issues. As a result, León, owned by the same group as Pachuca, has been disqualified. Pachuca, meanwhile, has strongly opposed the decision and vowed to appeal.

FIFA’s Official Decision

In an official statement, FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee determined that both Pachuca and Club León violated FIFA’s multi-club ownership regulations, as outlined in Article 10, Section 1 of the 2025 Club World Cup Regulations. As a consequence, León has been removed from the tournament.

The statement also confirmed that the Appeal Committee reviewed all evidence and upheld the ruling, citing non-compliance with FIFA’s competition rules. Additionally, FIFA will announce a replacement club soon to take León’s spot in the competition.

Pachuca Protests and Promises Legal Action

The Pachuca management has strongly condemned FIFA’s ruling, arguing that they were not given a clear explanation regarding the decision. The club claims it provided full documentation proving administrative and sporting independence.

"We have just been informed by FIFA that one of the two teams—Pachuca or León—will be excluded from the tournament. However, no official explanation was provided. We strongly disagree with this decision and will appeal it at the highest sporting tribunal."

Pachuca’s statement further emphasized:

"We earned our place in the Club World Cup on the pitch through hard work, professionalism, and fair play. We will fight to defend our right to participate."

Who Will Replace León?

With León officially excluded, speculation is rising about which team will take their spot in the 2025 Club World Cup. According to FIFA regulations, a replacement club will be announced soon, fueling debates over which team deserves the opportunity.

The tournament, set to take place in the United States next summer, is already drawing massive attention. Meanwhile, all eyes are on Pachuca’s legal response and whether their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will overturn FIFA’s ruling.

Do you think Pachuca will succeed in reversing FIFA’s decision? Or will the ruling remain unchanged?
