Cristiano Ronaldo experienced a night of highs and lows as Portugal secured a dramatic victory over Denmark to reach the UEFA Nations League semi-finals. The match ended 3-3 on aggregate after 90 minutes, with Portugal sealing their spot in the last four thanks to extra-time goals from Francisco Trincao and Goncalo Ramos.

The game started with early excitement when Patrick Dorgu conceded a penalty after bringing down Ronaldo in the box. However, Denmark’s goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel denied the Portuguese captain with a low save to his left. Portugal remained dominant and finally broke the deadlock seven minutes before halftime. A corner from Bruno Fernandes forced an own goal from Fulham defender Joachim Andersen, giving the hosts a deserved lead.

Just before the interval, Ronaldo thought he had doubled Portugal’s advantage, but his goal was ruled out for offside against Rafael Leao. Moments later, Denmark responded through Rasmus Kristensen, whose back-post header leveled the score and restored their aggregate lead.

The second half continued with relentless action. Ronaldo made amends for his earlier penalty miss by scoring from close range in the 72nd minute, capitalizing on a rebound after Schmeichel had saved Fernandes' shot. But Denmark struck back almost immediately, with Christian Eriksen slotting home Dorgu’s low cross to make it 2-2 on the night, putting the Danes on course to advance.

Just when it seemed Denmark had the upper hand, Trincao unleashed a stunning strike from the edge of the box with four minutes remaining, leveling the aggregate score once again and forcing extra time. The 24-year-old forward wasted no time in making an impact, scoring again just seconds into extra time after Schmeichel parried a shot from Goncalo Ramos.

As Denmark pushed forward in search of an equalizer, Portugal sealed the victory in the final moments. Ramos, who had come off the bench, finished off a well-worked move, tapping in Diogo Jota’s assist to make it 5-3 on aggregate and confirm Portugal’s place in the semi-finals.

The night also saw a special moment for Bernardo Silva, who was honored before the match for earning his 100th cap for Portugal, becoming only the eighth player in history to reach this milestone.

Portugal will now prepare for a blockbuster semi-final showdown against Germany, who advanced after defeating Italy 5-4 on aggregate. Meanwhile, Denmark will shift their focus to World Cup qualifying, where they will face Scotland in Group C.

With Ronaldo playing a pivotal role despite his mixed fortunes, and Portugal showcasing resilience in a thrilling contest, this Nations League quarter-final will be remembered as one of the most intense battles of the tournament.
