Dean Huijsen Responds to Weed Allegations in Viral Podcast Interview
Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen recently found himself in the spotlight after a viral podcast clip sparked unexpected controversy. The 19-year-old, who joined Bournemouth from Juventus last summer, had to set the record straight after being asked about alleged marijuana use during an interview with influencer Papa Pincus.
A Controversial Question
During their chat, Pincus brought up Huijsen’s relaxed demeanor on the pitch, bluntly asking:
“Do you smoke weed?”
The young defender laughed off the question before responding with clarity:
“For everyone watching, I have sleepy eyes. I got them from my mom—it's just how I was born. I’m not high, and we’re not allowed to take weed due to doping controls.”
The Viral Photo Explained
Pincus also referenced a viral image where Huijsen appeared with red eyes while holding a Premier League man-of-the-match award. However, the Spanish international quickly explained that the redness was caused by an in-game incident.
“I got hit in the eye by the ball. Someone shot, and it went right in my eye—so I looked even worse.”
Despite some backlash online, Pincus defended the lighthearted nature of the question, stating that Huijsen had no issue with it. On social media platform X, the influencer wrote:
“For those allergic to light-hearted banter, we went through all the questions beforehand, and he loved this one. Maybe you should see the funny side too!”
Rising Star Attracts Real Madrid’s Attention
Huijsen’s performances for Bournemouth have turned heads across Europe. Since joining from Juventus, he has made 27 appearances in his debut Premier League season and recently earned his first cap for Spain. His impressive displays have reportedly caught the eye of Spanish giants Real Madrid.
However, the young defender remains focused on the present. Speaking during international duty, he said:
“I’m not thinking about that right now. I just want to finish the season well. When the time comes, we’ll see. Of course, it’s an honor to be linked with such a big club.”
Praise from Spain’s Coach
Spain’s national team coach, Luis de la Fuente, has been full of praise for Huijsen, calling him a vital addition to the squad.
“He is great news for Spanish football. His confidence, spontaneity, and adaptation to our system have been exceptional.”
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Dean Huijsen—both on and off the pitch.
