US Man Sets Guinness World Record with Over 34,000 Big Macs Consumed
Don Gorske, a 70-year-old man from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, has extended his Guinness World Record for consuming the most Big Macs in a lifetime to over 34,000. Despite concerns about his health, Gorske's habit of eating two McDonald's Big Mac hamburgers every day has not only allowed him to become one of the longest-running record holders but has also helped him reach his seventies.
Gorske, a retired prison officer, has made Big Macs an integral part of his life since his first bite on May 17, 1972. He fell in love with the iconic burger and vowed to eat them for the rest of his life. Remarkably, he has kept a receipt of every single Big Mac he has eaten, along with the containers. His devotion to Big Macs even led him to propose to his wife, Mary, in a McDonald's parking lot.
Over the years, Gorske's Big Mac consumption has evolved. Previously, he would order and eat up to nine Big Macs in one sitting, with the closest McDonald's displaying his portrait on its wall. However, he has now reduced his visits and typically goes to McDonald's twice a week to order batches of Big Macs, which he microwaves at home to eat when hungry. He occasionally snacks on ice cream, fruit bars, or potato chips in the evenings.
Gorske's obsession with Big Macs was met with both teasing and support. While incarcerated individuals he guarded at a maximum-security prison would relentlessly tease him, his fellow guards would occasionally sneak in Big Macs for him during double shifts. His wife, Mary, has also been supportive, understanding his passion for the iconic burger.
To maintain physical fitness, Gorske skips breakfast, avoids side servings like fries, and walks around six miles daily. His dedication to Big Macs earned him the Guinness World Record for most Big Macs eaten in a lifetime in 1999, surpassing the 25,000 mark in 2011.
Gorske's unwavering love for Big Macs shows no signs of diminishing. In 2023 alone, he consumed 728 Big Macs, adding to his grand total. Despite having eaten over 34,000 Big Macs, Gorske insists that he still enjoys each one as if it were his first.
